The first 20 strips of The Artiste were basically a series of standalone art gags. Sure, they were connected to the comic's main storyline in a loose way, but it was only starting in the second batch of strips that I started having "story arcs" spanning several strips. This is the beginning of the first such arc. As you can tell, I've always been adamant that each comic strip, even if it's part of a story that continues, should be self-contained in the sense that it still ends with a joke.
