When it came time to colour in my first batch of strips, I quickly adopted this sort of style in which objects in the background were airbrushed, usually in the same colour as the surrounding space. It helps to direct attention to the characters and their actions by giving other elements a blurry, out-of-focus quality. It also means that environment and setting are often downplayed. The Artiste is a highly character-driven story, so I think I can get away with it (even though it makes me feel a little lazy sometimes!)
I also focus on my characters in my comic, and my backgrounds go through a series of experimental fuzziness.
