As I commented at the time, this was the first strip in which I had to find a way to portray darkness, being that it was at night. It was one of those times when I got to do something a little fancy in terms of art, which was great because the visuals in this comic generally don't vary much.
Also, many people noticed that in two previous strips, Janet is visibly growing some kind of plant in her dresser dwawer. It's entirely possible that this is the result!
Rocky & Bullwinkle was indeed a good show, but I don't think it was an inspiration for this comic :)
