Edit: I have had many, many visitors who like to read comics completely backwards, from current to page one, and who've seen that harmless joke and just ignored it.
This is the first one that ever yelled at me in a comment about it.
Yup, I, too was quite surprised to get admonished by your site for reading backwards...
I am torn if it is charming or offputting. I know that when I was reading backwards and saw it come up, I *did* stop and go elsewhere... but it did make your strip standout in my mind and make me return. So... for whether I think it will help your readership or hurt it, depends on the person.
*Grin* at the reading backwards message. Yeah I cliecked back specially to see t , I *never* read a comic backwards.
Also why is it that nobody ever realises just how well car controls were designed for the clumsy? They're brilliant! Profoundly liberating. Well, except for the wiper controls, they just suck.
Okay guys, I thought about it and decided to give the ax to that infamous little item. It was causing more harm than good, I can see by my visitor stats that contrary to what I thought, a high percentage of potential new readers leave the site after they see that message.
It wasn't funny enough to be charming, and I can imagine why people would find it obnoxious. Even though some of you who went out of your way to see if found it slightly amusing, those who weren't expecting it probably didn't see it quite the same way. Long story short, I'm playing it safe. You never know who might be viewing your site after all!
Huh... you can actually chart folks leaving after the alert msg? Wow. I certainly hope that those who did leave return, as I did, because this strip is quite endearing. Feels like we are all joining at the ground floor of something with a lot of potential. Like a fledgling "Devil's Panties", only more geek than nerd. ;) Oh, and maybe I am being foolish and assuming too much by the name "Simon", but I was surprised that it was a male writer of such a solidly female protagonist. (Too many female characters from male webcartoonists seem genderless or unrealistic)
Haha, thinking I'm male because my name and avatar are male is assuming too much? Oh, it certainly is! You just got lucky this time.
Seriously though, thank you! I'm equally surprised that Janet turned out to be "solidly female"... I never thought of her as a particularly feminine character to be honest!
I like it. I don't like to read comics backwards, though. Especially story ones.
